CBG vs CBD: What Are They And How Can They Benefit Your Skin?
We delve into these two anti-inflammatory powerhouses and explain why you’ll find them packed into every Skin Bureaux product…
CBD in skincare is nothing new. In fact, it’s gained a significant amount of traction in the last few years – so much so, the CBD skincare market is predicted to reach a staggering £7bn by 2023 according to this report by Grand View Research, Inc. But have you heard of CBG skincare? Possibly not… Much lesser known, here’s everything you need to know about this other anti-inflammatory hero and why, combined with CBD, is the answer to your best-ever skin..
What Is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a naturally-occurring compound found in cannabis plants like marijuana or hemp plants. It boasts impressive anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties meaning it’s great for helping to relieve common skin concerns and other inflammatory skin conditions. With such an abundance of skin-loving benefits and the fact it is gentle enough for use on all skin types, it’s no surprise CBD skincare has skyrocketed. There are countless studies (like this one) that prove its efficacy too.
What Is CBG?
So what is CBG? CBG, or cannabigerol, is another type of cannabinoid found in cannabis. “It’s the rarest type since it is found in much smaller quantities and often called the ‘mother of all cannabinoids’ since it is the precursor to CBD,” says Dr Victoria. Much like CBD, it is a potent anti-inflammatory, is rich in antioxidants and is great for boosting skin health – particularly when it comes to both ageing and acne. It has been successfully demonstrated in countless studies (like this one) that it is both safe and effective for dermatological use. In fact, Dr Victoria says it’s easily outperforming its derivative CBD in terms of efficacy and results – particularly when it comes to inflammation, redness and skin barrier function.
Why Are CBD And CBG So Powerful Together?
“Placing both CBD and CBG together gives us such synergism as we get all the known benefits of CBD plus the enhanced abilities of CBG,” explains Dr Victoria. “They really are the ultimate powerhouse duo which is why we’ve used this innovative blend in each and every one of our Skin Bureaux products.”
“These are exciting times, as more studies come to light on the positive effects that cannabinoids have on our skin; We know that our hectic busy lives in the digital age lead to inflammation and this causes stress on our skin and the tell-tale signs of ageing. Skin Bureaux has been specifically designed to fit into modern lifestyles with CBD and CBG to help address inflammation, a key trigger for the ageing process along with trusted, hero ingredients, antioxidants and retinols to help reduce oxidative stress and improve cell turnover”
